The Panthers struck first midway through the first period on a power play goal by MacKenzie Weegar, but the Lightning responded quickly with a goal from Ondrej Palat just sixteen minutes later. The rest of the game was a tense chess match, with both goaltenders, Sergei Bobrovsky and Andrei Vasilevskiy, making incredible saves to keep their teams in the game.

The turning point came late in the second period when Matthew Tkachuk drew a penalty, putting the Panthers on the power play again. This time, they capitalized with a beautiful passing play from Aleksander Barkov to Aaron Ekblad for the go-ahead goal.

The Lightning desperately pushed for an equalizer in the third period, but Bobrovsky stood tall, denying point-blank chances from Victor Hedman and Nikita Kucherov.
